TL;DR:
Gamification: the use of game elements in non-game contexts (Deterding, 2011)
- Gamification can be a pedagogical tool when intentionally aligned with learning outcomes. Instructor use also creates opportunities to model transparent, responsible AI application aligned with academic integrity standards.
- Gamification is already everywhere–from banking apps to restaurants rewards and language learning software–and our students experience it daily.
- Gamification seems like a heavy lift. AI can carry some of the load [as a tool] while freeing up your time for creative pedagogy. For example, AI can be used to brainstorm brain mechanics for particular curricular contexts, generate riddles, draft trivia questions, etc.
AI Prompt Creation:
- Clear + Contextual = Creative
- Refine, don’t settle
- AI is your co-player, not your replacement
- Keep it plAIful!
